Instant gratification is just a click away. Dancing across your cell phone screen is an app for just about anything…or at least it would seem that way. With a click you can order a soccer ball, supplies for your home, and even groceries. In fact if you have a yen for Chinese food, it too must be just a click away. Watching your favorite movie from your comfiest couch is also a mere purchase away and is viewable whenever the spirit moves you. Need a ride? Open up the Uber app and your limo awaits. We’ve become so dependent and programmed that there is an easy fix for everything that sometimes we come to believe and expect that all we encounter in life should be served up immediately on a silver platter.
If you have a medical problem is it wise to use WebMD as a substitute for your doctor actually performing an examination or providing his/her expertise? Allow me to answer, if you have any common sense you’ll visit your doctor rather than relying on a website for advice and guidance.

When Aligners Alone Are Not Enough
In part 1 of this 2 part series on Hybrid Orthodontic treatment, I discussed some of the failings of aligner therapy. As in all medical/dental related areas the most critical step in care begins with an accurate diagnosis. Namely, what is the nature of the clinical problem. Once that is determined, a plan to address the problem can be created. The key is to create an excellent plan. Not all plans are created equal, therefore creating the appropriate treatment care plan is the key to delivering the desired outcome and achieving an excellent result.
This is where the skill sets and experience of the doctor(an orthodontic specialist) are so important(stay tuned, I will explore this in more detail in a future blog post).
Hybrid Therapy and You
Today our focus will be specifically on the tooth aligning limitation of aligners and how we have developed a unique protocol called Hybrid Therapy(attribution to Dr. Peter Kierl in Oklahoma)that has been designed to overcome those limitations.
Let’s look at a couple of clinical examples that demonstrate the limitations of aligners and how we solve them to ensure a great result; smile and bite perfection. Continue reading Part 2: Hybrid Orthodontic Treatment – When Aligners Alone Are Not Enough
10 Critical Things You Need to Know When Selecting an Orthodontist
Knowledge is the critical element when making important decisions. In this blog post I have provided some important information.
Ask the orthodontist these important questions to determine that you are getting the most value for your investment:
1. Do you have a smile design philosophy? What are the things you look for in determining your plan for my treatment?
2. Can you show me how my teeth will look after treatment, before treatment is actually started? Only select orthodontists that use Suresmile digital technology are capable of creating an accurate simulation of your future treatment. This is the most sophisticated orthodontic technology in the world and ensures that patients receive the most beneficial care. Metal braces were once the only choice patients had to straighten their teeth, fix their bites and brighten their smiles. In the early1980’s clear braces were invented and at around that time braces behind the teeth were developed as well. These were the only choices a patient had until the turn of the 21st century, the year 2000. As an orthodontist,Dr. Feinberg attended the first series of seminars on Invisalign and over the course of time has become a highly skilled expert in Invisalign therapy. In the early days, just like in metal braces Invisalign therapy was limited in its applications and quite frankly was an inferior product. Now that the product has reached its current level of excellence we have confidently offered it as an option for our patients. Continue reading Is Invisalign the Right Choice for You?
Have you ever wondered what your orthodontist’s recipe is for magically straightening or aligning your teeth and bite. Well, let me explain how orthodontic tooth movement works:
First apply light pressure to the tooth over a period of time(usually 18 months) and the body’s natural response to this pressure is tooth movement. This pressure is translated to the tooth through brackets, which are like little handles attached to each individual tooth. Continue reading Orthodontics is More Than Magic
Today orthodontic treatments are faster and more effective than before. Technological breakthroughs like self-ligating braces and clear aligners are more comfortable to wear, easier to care for, and best of all, require shorter treatment times and less visits for adjustments.
SureSmile braces work by applying a gentle, continuous force to align your teeth into the proper position to correct any imperfections and help you achieve the smile you always wanted. SureSmile braces do not require any elastic bands, which require fewer appointments with faster treatment time and are easier to clean and less noticeable than the traditional metal braces. SureSmile braces are up to three times smaller than traditional braces. Continue reading Today’s Orthodontic Treatment: Faster and More Comfortable
If you are getting braces and you may be a bit nervous about wearing wires and brackets on your teeth, there is an orthodontic system that makes straightening your teeth with braces a lot faster and easier compared to traditional braces. It is called SureSmile and it’s changing the way people feel about their braces.
SureSmile is orthodontic wire technology. Using a 3D computer model of your teeth, the orthodontist creates a custom plan for moving your teeth into their desired positions. The accuracy of the model, including clear visualization of the bone, means your doctor can choose the most direct path of correction for each tooth. That plan is then programmed into a computerized robotics system that bends the treatment wires into the precise shape prescribed. Continue reading SureSmile or Traditional Braces?
One of the big things we’ve heard about is SureSmile, so that’s what we’re going to talk a little bit about, today.
What is SureSmile and how does it relate to your practice?
Broadly speaking, SureSmile is a truly holistic approach to orthodontic care. SureSmile is a convergent digital technology that is a large part of everything that we do. Convergence in the sense that it utilizes virtual or computer based technology and applies it to real world therapeutic applications.(Creation of robotic orthodontic archwires). SureSmile is a blend or harmony of two key components, diagnostic and therapeutic.
It is in fact, the most advanced orthodontic software technology available to our profession. The diagnostic component is extremely powerful. It provides me with tremendous capabilities to strategize and plan the tooth movements necessary to perfect the alignment, fit of the teeth, and smile line prior to actual clinical treatment. Using this powerful suite of diagnostic toolsets and the information gleaned from these toolsets, we can apply this to our orthodontic therapy, creating great synergies.
